Town Council Meeting

Posted by nathan on 13 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

On Tuesday night, I went to my first town council meeting since I have filed to run for Waterloo Town Council.

I showed up at the Town Hall, and there was a note on the door which stated the meeting was at the library. At this point, I was very happy I drove, as I was in a hurry after waiting five minutes for a train.

When I arrived at the library, I sat next to Janet, the wonderful lady who is just so darn wonderful. She introduced me to Ron Livergood, the Town Marshall, and one of the other town employees, who was actually at my house with his step-son to pick up our old furniture about two years ago.

Anway, there are five council members, and three must be present to conduct business. Only two were there. Janet said she’s never seen that happen before. She apologized (even though she didn’t cause it at all!), and I talked briefly with current council members Candy Surber and Bill Hubartt (Bill is also running for re-election–and had better get back on, too!).

So, my first normal council meeting ever to attend, and they can’t conduct any business.
It was good to see a lot of great people, though…

Waterloo Town Council Caucus Results

Posted by nathan on 16 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

Tonight was the Republican Caucus for Waterloo Town Council.

On the first ballot, William (Bill) Hubartt was selected.
On the second ballot, Nathan Diehl was selected.
On the third ballot, Randy Bice was selected.

I am very much looking forward to getting to learn from these men, and look forward to the coming months and years.

Bill Hubartt is actually a distant relative to my wife, whose maiden name is Hubartt. I think, Bill’s grandfather and Emily’s greatgrandfather were cousins once removed. (i think i have that right?)

Anyway, I am very glad the caucus is over. It’s good to move on, and soon you’ll be seeing a sign in my yard…

Town of Waterloo Town Council Republican Caucus Tonight

Posted by nathan on 16 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

Tonight is my big night–my first ever political speech.

I am running for Waterloo Town Council, and tonight’s Republican Caucus will choose three of the four candidates to represent the Republican party on the November ballot.

Tonight’s caucus is at 6:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Depot on Van Vleek Street. I would love if you are able to come out and support me. Or, if you don’t like me, please come out anyway and vote for someone else. They are all great people, too.

Waterloo Councilman Accused of Battery

Posted by nathan on 09 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

It was just in the paper last night that a current Waterloo Councilman stands accused of battery. According to the report, the man “did knowingly or intentionally touch another person in a rude, insolent or angry manner by placing his hands on her chest.”
At his initial hearing June 1, he entered a not guilty plea. His next hearing is set for August 15.

How does this reflect on the town–that a Town Councilman is charged with battery? Even if he’s not guilty, it is still bad press for the town. not cool.

I am dedicated to fighting for integrity, honesty and ethics. I think it’s sad that we actually have to fight for those, but alas, we do. And I will.

Republican Caucus

Posted by nathan on 03 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

The next step in my bid for Waterloo Town Council is a Republican Caucus. At this caucus, all registered Republican voters within the corporation of Waterloo will choose three of the four candidates to appear on the fall ballot.
If you are a resident of the town of Waterloo, I would appreciate your attendance at this caucus, and also appreciate your vote to appear on the ballot this November. I also would love to hear your feedback as well! Let me know what you would like me to address while on the council. How can I make the town a better place to live? I want to hear your thoughts for sure!

The Republican Caucus will be held on Thursday, August 16, 6:30 p.m. (will be 30-45 minutes) at the Waterloo Depot, across from Thomson Park.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the caucus, or you have any thoughts you want to share with me. I always want to hear your thoughts!

Waterloo Town Council

Tonight I am meeting with Janet, one of my mentors in my run for Waterloo Town Council.

Tonight I expect to learn what’s going on, and what the next step is, and what the heck I’m getting myself into. I really don’t know much at this point!

What I can tell you is that at this point, I have filed to be a candidate to a Town Convention. At this town convention, the attendees (which, by the way, i will be inviting all residents to attend and vote for me!) will elect three people of all filed candidates to appear on the ballot this November. From what Janet has told me, people are excited about my run for Town Council, because they know I’ll be looking out for the best interests of the town.

And you bet I will–being someone who can’t stand the politics of politics, I have no problem standing up to politics. I’m running for the people of Waterloo as a whole–not some guy who wants to benefit from my vote. I am not interested in personal gain, and I’m not interested in the least about helping someone else personally gain. What I’m interested in is helping the people of Waterloo as a whole. (Utility rates, anyone?)

If you haven’t been to downtown Waterloo lately, you might want to drive through–better yet, I encourage you to park your car, and take a walk. Not only is walking good for you, but you can better enjoy the beautification efforts on Wayne Street, and also the current intersection expansion project at Wayne and Union (427 and US 6).

I am looking forward to this opportunity to serve the Town of Waterloo. I plan on driving people to this website with information on the town, town projects, etc. Through this means, I hope to be a Christian witness to them, for sure. This is a stepping stone for me, and I’m excited for this opportunity. Waterloo, here I come!

Official Notification: I am Running for Office, Waterloo Town Council

Posted by nathan on 01 Aug 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council

You heard it here first: Nathan Diehl (that’s me!) is running for the Republican Nomination for Town Council of Waterloo (Indiana, IN).

I have always enjoyed politics, and I love my quaint little town of Waterloo. I think I have a lot of offer the town, and look forward to learning more about this opportunity ahead of me. I have some good, experienced people willing to mentor me, and I appreciate that, very much. I’m not sure all that is ahead of me on this political journey, but I’m following faithfully…

Here’s to politics!
