Got any more?

Link Love

My long-time friend and running buddy Ryan (although he’s still about 140 pounds!) recently started blogging, so I figured I’d send some link love his way. Be sure to swing by and check out his stories.
This one-time English major has an Impromptview.

Man Gives Birth?

Posted by on 23 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: random., thoughts on life.

Did you hear the news? A ‘man’ gave birth to a child!
That’s right, a ‘man’ gave birth!

Of course, what they don’t tell you is that the ‘man’ was born a woman, and takes hormones Barry Bonds-style to be manly. So the ‘man’ is actually a manly woman.

Nice…

So, if we call a manly woman a ‘man’, should be start calling a girly man a ‘woman’?

Perry Noble on ‘Hit between the eyes’

Posted by on 18 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: churches on the ball., thoughts on church, thoughts on god.

This morning my favorite blogger Perry Noble wrote this as advice to church planters (no, I have no intention to plant a church):

If someone isn’t angry at you then pray for God to set you on fire and lead you to preach a message that will hit the majority of your church between the eyes…and then HANG ON!

(Read the whole post in context here.)

What do you think? Is this wise advice to church planters?
Do you want to be ‘hit between the eyes’ by your pastor more often?

Where We Come From (Win a Free Cup of Coffee)

Posted by on 17 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: New Hope stuff.

(Read on for your chance to win a cup of coffee.)
New Hope has people coming from all over the Northeast Indiana Region. Gearing up for our 2008 Annual Business Meeting next week, we crunched numbers, looking at where our regular and occasional families come from. The attached pie graph is a break-down of cities in our region where New Hope people reside.
Interestingly, we have people coming from a greater eight-county region.
This pie graph shows the six highest attended towns (Blue, Red, Green, Purple, Teal, Orange), and then ‘other’ directional regions (Other North, Other East, Other South and Other West), (light blue, pink, light green and light purple).

So here’s your task. Guess what city/town represents these in order…
1 (Blue):
2 (Red):
3 (Green):
4 (Purple):
5 (Teal):
6 (Orange):
First people to get all six of these correct, in order, wins a free cup of coffee at your choice of local coffeeshops.

Here are some ideas for you to guess (in alphabetical order): Angola, Ashley, Auburn, Butler, Corunna, Fremont, Garrett, Hamilton, Hudson, Kendallville, Waterloo. (All six are listed here.)

Here’s your chance to win a cup of coffee: The first person to correctly guess the no. seven community gets a free cup of coffee at your choice of area shops. (You also have to guess the first six, too! (although not necessarily correctly) ). HINT: Seven Families come from the no. Seven community!

One Guess per contest per person.
Both contests end at noon EDT on Wednesday, July 23.

‘Do you want a ride?’

Posted by on 17 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: my life.

This summer, I’ve been walking more and more to work and up town to the grocery or council meetings.

But it seems more than ever before, I’m getting offered rides left and right. Don’t worry, I’m grateful for the offer, but seriously, I’m walking by choice. I have a nice car, I can afford gasoline (although I’d rather not pay it), I actually have a driver’s license, I have affordable car insurance, and I’m not walking out of necessity.

Several weeks ago, I had one couple stop and offer me a ride, ‘No thanks,’ I responded.
‘Naaaa, get in Nathan. We’ll take you wherever you’re going.’
‘No, thanks, I’m walking for fun.’
‘No, get in, we’ll take you.’
‘No, really, I want to walk?’
‘Are you sure? Come on, let us take you.’
‘I chose to walk, I’m good. Thanks!’
‘Well, okay.’
‘Have a great day, and thanks!’

That is too funny!

Do more walking! (And don’t ask me if I need a ride, please!)

What factors are prohibiting you from walking more often?

This Week’s Poll: Gas Milage

Posted by on 15 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: polls

This week’s poll asks the question, what kind of gas mileage does your primary vehicle get?

What gas mileage does your PRIMARY vehicle get (on average)?

When you purchased this vehicle, was gas mileage a reason? If so, how much influence did it make on your decision?
Was economics an issue in your choice?
Was going green or conservation any influence in your decision?

My Weekend Highlight: Mitch Daniels

Posted by on 14 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: my life.

This weekend I went to the Three Rivers Festival Parade, and was standing there watching the parade route. The parade stopped in front of us, and I looked over and there was a guy looking directly at me.

Then it hit me: This was my man, my governor, Mitch Daniels sitting on a custom painted (with the state symbol) bike. I pointed at him and yelled, ‘Mitch, you’re my man!’

This guy has got to be the coolest governor in the nation. Who rides a bike in a parade? What governor would care more about turning a state around than getting reelected? My Man, that’s who!
