Today I Maed Some Tyops

Posted by on 24 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: my life., thoughts on life.

Today I’ve almost made some pretty major typos.

I nearly submitted a support request to a company containing the word ‘shifted’, but accidentally left the ‘f’ out of that word. Luckily I caught that one!

Then just a few moments ago, I was in Photoshop working on this weekend’s notes, and I don’t often make mistakes. But this time I decided to double-check my work, just in case.
I found an error! What the heck? I spelled ‘Outisde’.

At that point, I almost stopped proofing, but decided to continue. What? I found another–‘Relationhsips’!

Man…I’m slipping.
Yikes!

Have you found it true that when we think we’re doing okay, thast wehn we messs up?

The Mouse in My House (And Other Balancing Acts)

Posted by on 24 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: my life., thoughts on life.

This morning I was thinking about my house. I don’t really know why, but I was thinking ‘My house will never have a mouse get in.’

And I’m right–it won’t. My house is built with concrete block from foundation to roof, so every exterior wall is an 8″ thick piece of concrete. A mouse isn’t going to get through that!
I am well protected with a very sturdy home.

There are some major benefits to a block house. But there are also some major setbacks, too. There is no insulation ‘between the studs’, so heating/cooling costs a bit more. Water seeps in through the basement blocks much easier than it does a normal concrete basement wall.

Strengths and weaknesses. The thing is, you can’t ever find the perfect construction method–there’s always a better way to do a part of it, but then that hinders a different part. So it’s all about balance.

Have you had to balance anything in your life or in your walk with Jesus lately?

Vision Leaks, Part IV

This reminds me of what I previously blogged about here, here, here and here.

2 Peter 1:12-13 (NIV):

So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body.

Earth Day

Posted by on 22 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: my life.

Today, April 22, is Earth Day.

It’s a day to put the focus on the enviornment. Are you doing anything today in honor of Earth Day?

Me? Well, I drove to work today for the first time since last Monday. Last night I filled up my gasoline tank, costing me a cool $45. Not that driving is Earth Day friendly, but I had to–errands to run right after work in Auburn, and I also need to swing by Town Hall with a 30-pound piece of equipment, and I’m not going to carry that for the 13-minute walk!

So, are you doing anything earth-friendly today on Earth Day?

This is Tempting Me

This is the scene in the office today, which I see every time I walk too and fro (which is fairly often today).

Talk about tempting…

My Brother’s Blog

Posted by on 18 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: random.

My brother Adam is Worship Arts Pastor here at New Hope.

He blogs like I do.

Only, I don’t accept advertising, he does. Here’s a screenshot of the advertisement I found at the bottom on his site today:

I thought that was absolutely hilarious! After I showed him this ad, he stated he was going to remove all ads from his blog.
What a riot!

Carless

This week, I have walked to work as much as possible.
I have walked to work on Tuesday – Friday. I wouldn’t have driven my car at all in that time, except I had to get a couple of bags of softball equipment and didn’t want to carry 30 lbs of awkward bags for a 10 minute walk.

But it’s been really nice to be away from the car (which, btw, will need filled up with like $40 in fuel the next time I drive it). The morning walk perks me up (it’s usually a bit chilly in the morning!) and really gets me going in the morning.

In about an hour, I am going to walk to town hall over my lunch break, pick up my mail and head back. I’m sure the mid-day walk will be a welcome break and hopefully a needed stress-relief.

In addition to walking to work, I’ve also put in two running workouts this week, and my legs are feeling it. It feels good to know I’m getting my body back in shape.
Have you been exercising this spring?

Earthquake!

Posted by on 18 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: my life.

This morning, our area was shook by an earthquake. A 5.4 earthquake in West Salem, Illinois, some 300 miles from my home.

My wife was exercising at the time of the quake, and didn’t feel a thing! I was in bed asleep, and didn’t feel a thing either (I’m a heavy sleeper–I probably would have sleep through a 8.5 earthquake).
But when we turned on the morning news, the quake was all they talked about. Apparently, one could feel it very easily in this area. Ryan and Mary from Indiana’s Newscenter were live on the air and stopped what they were doing and looked at each other while they were live (or so they told us).
If you’re in the area of this earthquake, did you feel it? If so, please share a story!

Today’s Poll Question: The Better Operating System

Given what you know, which do you believe is the better-built Operating System, Windows Vista or Mac OSX (Leopard)?

How much water should you drink every day?

Is there a particular reason you feel that way? (No bashing please, just honest opinions wanted).

Encounter on the Road to Work

Posted by on 07 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: my life., thoughts on god.

Today I share a story from my walk to work this morning.

For it to make sense, you have to understand my route. I walk 1 1/2 blocks on my road, then turn onto a road without any sidewalks for about 1/4 mile or so. This road is wide, with about a 3′ paved shoulder.

Note–people don’t normally walk on roads without sidewalks, right?

Well, today when I turned, there was a guy ahead of me by about 100 meters, and he was walking slower than I, so I knew I might catch him. I thought ‘What is he going to think when I pass him?’

I decided it was best to not pass, so I tried to stay back at least 20 meters. But as we approached my turn into work, this guy really slowed down–I think perhaps he was fiddling with an ipod or something. But I came up on him really quickly, and wasn’t really paying attention. As I prepared to turn and he was about two meters ahead of me, my shadow was in front of him. I wondered if he’d notice.
Sure enough, he did notice, and he turned around really, really quickly and had a look of horror on his face. I turned my corner, and smiled really big, and it made me laugh.

I think you had to be there to see this guy’s face when he realized someone was right behind him. It was so unexpected for him to encounter anyone on the road, he was so startled.

In our lives, it is in the times when we’re not paying attention to what’s going on around us that we seem to ‘forget’ about Jesus. Through my walk today, God was speaking to me–am I watching for God all the time? He’s right behind me, even when I’m not thinking about it…
And he’s right behind you, too.
