Election, Winter Weather and Coffee

Posted by nathan on 06 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized, my life.

  • This morning, Emily and I went in to vote (and yes, I voted for myself). The entire time we were there (about five minutes), we didn’t see any other voters in either Grant 1 or Grant 2 precincts. We did expect a low turnout, and the townspeople are living up to their expectations, unfortunately…
  • Yesterday Emily and I took guesses about how many people would vote for me today. Emily’s guess was 30, I think, while I, being the eternal optimist, guessed 52.
  • It is presently snowing outside. It is cold. I wore a scarf this morning, and it kept my neck warm. Too bad they don’t make scarves for the mid-section. My coat just didn’t keep me warm enough through the bitter wind.
  • Tonight Emily and I are going to watch county election returns. I’ve never done anything like that previously, so it is a big unknown for me.
  • When I hear the results of the election tonight, I’ll post here. My blog will likely be the first place the general public can find results, unless you’re actually at the election returns with me tonight. Check back tonight, maybe around 6:30 or 7 p.m. for the Waterloo Town Council results. Perhaps if you’re lucky, I’ll also post the Auburn District 5 City Council Race (Go Katz!).
  • I enjoyed my cup of coffee this morning. It warmed me up after my frightfully cold 20-second walk in from my car to work this morning! Everyone should drink good coffee. I’ll have to make you a cup of French press coffee sometime–yum-o!

The Need to Yawn

Posted by nathan on 05 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: thoughts on life.

This weekend as I was leading worship at New Hope, I was looking at people in the seats, trying to engage them in worship as I always do.
But something different happened this weekend…I looked directly at a lady, and she was yawning. She covered her mouth nicely, but still, I saw her yawn.
That made me want to yawn myself. I had to concentrate very hard on singing and not yawning. Everything in me wanted to yawn. (As I type this in today, I just yawned!). I had this inner battle in my mind, ‘I need to yawn right now.’ ‘No you don’t.’ ‘Yeah, I feel the urge.’ ‘No, look away and move on.’

It wasn’t just an easy move on for me. I looked away, and yet I still felt the strong urge to yawn.

I think a lot of times in our walk with God, we see things or hear things which we shouldn’t participate in, and we are faced with that same inner struggle. Do we give in and ‘yawn’, or do we fight? Resisting the urge is never easy. So what do we do? What do you do to resist the urge to ‘yawn’ when you shouldn’t?

Official Announcement: KeyOne Media Group

Posted by nathan on 04 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Tech Stuff., my life.

KeyOne Meda Group
My new business venture is KeyOne Media Group LLC. KeyOne provides Simple Solutions for Small Business.

Business has picked up drastically in the past two weeks, and I felt it was time to make this venture official.
Recently, I have spent time on website design and tweaking a pre-designed website. I have a meeting early this week with some major potential. I also have several jobs being discussed…
I do most of KeyOne’s work myself, but I freelance out some of the tasks if I feel someone else can do it at a higher quality. I freelance all graphic work to Jon. Jon created the KeyOne logo, and is currently working on two separate logos as well.

The interesting thing is, I haven’t marketed KeyOne at all. I’ve never asked anyone for business. The business has seemed to find me.

Check out KeyOne, and let me know if there is ever anything we can for your place of employment.

Waterloo Town Council Debate Recap

Posted by nathan on 02 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Town Council, my life.

Last night was the Waterloo Town Council Debate.

There are five candidates running, and four showed up. The fifth sent a letter which was read by moderator Ken Surber.

I think I did well at the debate. I think I answered each question directly and without beating around the bush. There were a few questions which I was not familiar with the subject, but think I provided insight into the logic I would use to come to a conclusion. (One such question I answered something like, ‘I would want to know our current expenditures, and how much this would save, and find out when we would recoup our investment.’)

I believe I came across as ‘on the ball,’ and I think people appreciated my directness and positive outlook. I didn’t come in with a strict agenda, but instead, I come in with a ‘I want to learn and help the town’ attitude. I do not have all the answers–but I do want to find them.

I am looking forward to helping the town. I am encouraged by the direction of the Town of Waterloo, and look forward to located effective ways to lower the operating overhead of the town departments, enabling us to get our rising utility rates under control. In this year alone, the current board has cut $40,000 from it’s operating costs by better management. I suggest this trend can and will continue.
I’m looking forward to being a part of this.

I Miss My Wife Already

Posted by nathan on 01 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: my life.

Today Emily has a one-day business trip to Philadelphia. She left the house this morning at 4:30 a.m., and will return about 10 p.m. tonight.
I woke up just before she left, and was able to pray with her before she left. But then I went back to bed until 6:30. I thought about just getting around and getting work done, but 4:30 is way to early for me. I’m a morning person, but not that kind of morning person.
I left for work at 7:20, forgot I needed to drop a letter off at the post office, so I had to turn around. Once I did that, I pulled in to work, and then realized I had forgotten my coffee at home, so I drove home (90 second drive) to pick it up. After I picked it up and was walking out the door, it hit me–I didn’t have my lunch either.

I miss my wife. Normally we leave work at the same time, and she always asks, ‘Do you have your coffee?’ as she grabs our lunches out of the fridge. Emily is a good wife for me, and I miss her already. I am looking forward to having my wonderful wife back home with me tonight!

I love you Emily!
