Thoughts on Turning Thirty
Posted by nathan on 26 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: my life.
Today is my birthday. I turn 30. Here are some thoughts on the closure of my third decade, and the beginning of my fourth decade of life…
- I don’t feel old, but perhaps that’s because I’m not very old. I’m still young, right?
- Now that I’m 30, I’m supposed to be a real adult. No more college activities. Now I’m an adult. Does that mean I have to act like it?
- As of today, I finally quality to play in 30-and-over leagues. Finally–competition I can keep up with!
- Last night my wife surprised me with a party of my closest friends. It was quite enjoyable. I was looking at my two birthday cakes wondering, ‘How are 10 people going to eat all this cake?’ Only to turn around to see my friends standing there and hearing a group, ‘Surprise!’ To which I answered, ‘That was weird.’
- Normally my wife can’t keep a very good secret, but she did this time. To give you an example of how good she isn’t at keeping secrets, a few weeks ago, Emily came in the study and measured my neck. ‘No questions,’ she said. Moments later, she came back and measure the length from my shoulder to sleeve. ‘No, that’s not right.’ So she measured from my neck to my sleeve. ‘No, that’s not right either,’ she said. So I told her how to properly measure (from the back of the neck to the shoulder and down to the sleeve). So I am getting a dress shirt tonight from my wife, which I am planning on wearing to work tomorrow, if I get the okay from Emily, that is.
- When I came in to work today, I found I had forgotten to eat my lunch last Wednesday. Is that a sign of old age?
- I am married to a much younger woman now. I’m in my 30s, while my hot wife is in her 20s.
- In an ironic twist, I played “flag” football Saturday afternoon, and today, I am very sore. I am walking more like I’m 80 than 20. What a way to welcome the milestone 30–by walking like I’m 80.

Hi nathan. Congratulations on your 30th birthday.
I believe 30 is still young, though not that young….
Any way… God bless you and your family….
Happy birthday.

Welcome to the 30’s Nathan….I’m three years in and so far it is the best decade of my life. God is growing me in so many ways that He couldn’t in my 20’s because of my “young” attitudes. I hope you too find fulfillment and growth as you move ahead each day. Blessings!

“Old” is a relative term. Hang out with people older than you, and you’ll always feel young.

Man, I feel even older now that you’re 30! At least Adam isn’t 30 yet!

The look, on your face was funny. You stood there for a couple of seconds with your back to us and then when you turned around you had this look like “Wait a minute….” I wish someone would have taken a picture. We were waiting for Guy to come around the corner and go, “Who are those people?”
