This weekend Emily and I are planning to visit our niece Anara at the hospital. (Read about Anara’s recent surgery here)
We are making a day trip of it, leaving bright and early Saturday morning, and returning late afternoon. It will be a lot of driving, but we want to visit our niece, as well as Anara’s parents, Nate and Amanda.
We are looking forward to seeing Anara, and are continuing to pray for her recovery, as well as for Nate and Amanda.

This week, I asked the poll question, What color are my eyes? (Do you remember?)
The correct answer is Hazel. My eyes are hazel.
Who got that right?
Who got it wrong?

With the fall election just 12 days away (November 6), things are starting to gear up politically.
This morning I have a phone interview with a reporter from The Evening Star. She said it may take about 30 minutes, and I’m a bit nervous for this, as she may ask questions I don’t know the answers to…I sure am hoping my mind is quick this morning!
Tonight I have a Republican Rally to attend, where Indiana Senate Pro Tempore David Long with speak. Apparently, I (and the other five candidates for local seats) will speak for about two minutes. Still not sure what I’m going to say.
Next Thursday night, there is some kind of a ‘meet the candidates’ night, where all five people running–three Republicans and two Democrats–will be present. I still do not know what kind of format this will be, whether informal meet-and-greet, or if it will be a more formal debate. My wife will be on a business trip on this date, so I’ll be on my own for this one!
Just thought I’d give you an update!

Below are several photos from our vacation–note there are two pages of photographs, there is a page 2 link at the bottom of the photos.
On Tuesday we went to Dollywood. In one of the photographs, you can see a roller coaster from off the side of our balcony.
On Wednesday, we drove through the Smokey Mountain National Park (an hour drive), and that is where the landscape photos were taken. We also went to a Cherokee village. You can see a photo of a Cherokee with a blow dart gun.
Thursday we went to Gatlinburg, and to the Aquarium of the Smokies. They have a pretty cool underwater tunnel, where you stand on a track and are underneath all kinds of large fish. Pretty cool.
Hope you enjoy the photos!

So, I finally had some spare time to get our vacation photographs uploaded. I had to work on the rest of the photographs to reduce the size so they would load faster.
But with these two photographs of landscapes (they actually are much, much wider than what you see in this small thumbnail), I wanted to give them to you full size. Note these images do take 20-30 seconds to load on even a broadband connection. For the 1% of you still on dialup, don’t even try it!

This past weekend I was privileged to spend some quality time with a missionary. He talked about his life and showed me photographs of his daughters–teenagers, and he was away from them for most of the year. And then it hit me: This guy is away from his wife and kids more than he is in the same country!
Talk about dedication. Seven months of the year, he is in a different continent. The five months he’s in the same country, he travels the country. Talk about dedication and commitment.
So I wondered about myself: Would I be willing to make such a commitment, leaving my wife for months at a time, in order to follow God’s call?
Man…that one hurts!
How would you answer that?

So…I wonder how many people actually know what color my eyes are…
Do you remember what color my eyes are? Let’s find out! The correct answer will be posted in a comment on Thursday or Friday, but in the meantime, I am closing comments so you can’t cheat!

I just received this email from Kerry Hubartt, Anara’s paternal grandpa:
Praise God, Anara went into surgery this morning about 8 or 8:30. All is well so far. The orthopaedic
surgeon was first and worked on her pelvic bone. Then comes the work on replacing her bladder
with a reconstruction from her internal parts and further reconstruction in that area. It will be a
long, long day … Thanks for praying.
I will keep you up to date on any updates as i hear them.

This morning, we woke up late. The power had apparently surged, and two different circuit breakers clicked off during the night, including the circuit our alarm clock was on, of course.
I was going to post vacation photos this morning before I left, but I was unable to get our Internet connection up and running. I restarted the modem and router twice and couldn’t get a connection. So I turned them off and left, hoping the extended power-off cycle of 9 hours would reset it.
But the photos shouldn’t be much longer in getting posted now. I’ve done all the sorting work, and just need to upload them to a photogallery.
I get to celebrate Emily’s birthday tomorrow–yeah! I am very lucky to have Emily as my wife. She’s so good to me…

So my niece Anara (Emily’s brother Nathan’s daughter) is checking in to the hospital today for a major 8-12 hour surgery, which comes with a 3-week hospital stay and another 8 weeks or so at home in a traction unit (similiar to an external cast). (FYI, she was scheduled for surgery last month, but due to a diaper rash, it was postponed.)
Long story short, Anara was born with her bladder on the outside of her body, and her pelvis never fused together, which makes her feet (and legs) point outward. All of this is to be corrected in Friday’s surgery.
I encourage you to stop by the Hublog (Hubartt-Log) for updates, and also to check out last night’s post on the Hublog for more detailed info on tomorrow’s surgery as well as check out some photos of our beautiful nieces Violet and Anara!

This weekend New Hope is celebrating our Conference on Global Evangelism.
Let me just say…this comes with SO much work for me. You wouldn’t believe the last minute stuff I have to get accomplished–Too much for comfort! I am a planner, and I don’t much like last-minute stuff which throws a wrench into everything I’ve already planned. (And don’t misunderstand–I’m not complaining about the work I get to do!)
But I am excited for the conference. As I recently posted about, our Beautiful Feet Network has produced its first convert in the previously 100% Muslim tribe of Berani, who are now 99.998% Muslim. We are making historic progress, and that is flipping awesome! Which is why I say we are ‘celebrating’ the conference. I’m looking forward to it!
Have you considered going on a short-term trip to visit the Berani? Perhaps you may consider that. Let’s talk…
