First Poor Quality Issue w/ Dell

Posted by nathan on 01 Oct 2007 | Tagged as: Tech Stuff., my life.

Ever since my nightmarish issue with an HP notebook computer several years ago, I’ve been on the Dell bandwagon. When Dell started going downhill a couple years ago, I didn’t jump ship, I stayed the course.
I have never experienced any issues with Dell whatsoever (about 10 computers in four years), until this week.

I was installing a Dell Inspiron 530 computer (to get Windows XP on it), and it had a 13-in-1 card reader. When I opened up the slot where the card reader was located, it wasn’t there! I was like, ‘What the heck?’
I bent down and looked, and it was about 2″ back further than it should have been.
I looked again, and it was UPSIDE DOWN!

After I opened up the case and repositioned the card reader, I realized why it was loose: the screw holes did not line up.

I must say, I was somewhat disappointed in Dell for their lack of quality control on this computer. If I was a computer-idiot, they would have had to pay someone to come out and fix that–what a waste!

I snapped a couple of photos with my phone. Due to my phone’s camera’s poor quality, it’s kinda hard to tell it’s 2″ back inside the case and upside down, but it was!

That’s why I don’t use either of ‘em. I build my own. :)
