What do you say?

Posted by nathan on 11 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: thoughts on life.

Consider the words of Jesus:

Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

So my question to you is simple: What do you say? Do you say ‘Yes’ when you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ when you mean ‘No’, or do you provide ‘anything more than this’?

What do you say?
When you say ‘Yes’ do you mean it?
When you say ‘No’ do you mean it?

Follow-up Question: Are you consistent in what you say?

My business

This weekend I ordered business cards for my new business.

It’s really starting…kinda scary!

Disgusting Lawyers

Posted by nathan on 10 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: my life., thoughts on life.

We’ve all heard about disgusting, sleezebag lawyers, right? Well, this one tops it on my list…

I mentioned last week my wife got into a minor fender bender with a semi-truck from a very large company. My wife is just fine, so injuries.

So late last week, we got three letters from sue-happy lawyers trying to get us to sue the trucking company. But one company, who will remain nameless since I don’t want to adverstise for them (hint: the name is close to Greenburn and Black), sent a letter which contained this:

We have recently learned that some law firms are hiring runners to go to the police stations after accidents to obtain a copy of the accident reports. The law firms then send letters to potential accident victims listed on the police report.

They go on to describe how we should choose their firm to help us sue instead of a different company. I did not make this up. This sleezeball lawyer actually wrote this.

Disgusting lawyers.

FYI–I do not think all lawyers are disgusting sleezeballs. At one time I wanted to be a lawyer, but my uncle, Bruce Block (not a sleezeball), told me not to. He said there was too must dishonesty and i should pick a different profession. I did.
There are also lawyers around Auburn who I believe are good men–Jeff Turner, Kruse & Kruse. There are certainly non-sleezeball lawyers. Unfortunately, the disgusting sleezeballs kinda make it hard for the non-sleezeballs to break out of the bad reputation.

Apple slashes prices on iPhone, offers rebates to early adopters

Posted by nathan on 07 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: Tech Stuff., random.

Just two months after the release of the iPhone, Apple has announced a $200 drop on iPhones.

This, of course, upset many people who stood in line for hours or days and paid the extra $200.

So, Steve Jobs and Apple stepped up and issued this statement.
The read about old Steve-o, the more I like what he’s doing.

The Logo has Arrived

Posted by nathan on 06 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: my life.

I just received a mock up of my new business venture’s logo, and I’m really excited about it!

Jon, my graphics guy, has done a really great job. I have been busy laying the groundwork for this business, and it’s about to become a reality…
Watch for an exciting announcement to come in the next couple of weeks…

NFL Begins: Go Colts!

Posted by nathan on 06 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: my life.

I’m really excited to watch some football again. I’ve watched some preseason, but it’s just not the same (because it doesn’t matter, and second and third string players play a lot)

The NFL kicks off tonight as the Colts host the Saints. There will be a party in Indy tonight!

I will be in my living room, cuddling with my wife, watching the game. Hopefully I don’t yell at the television much…

Collision Damage Courtesy of JB Hunt

Posted by nathan on 06 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: my life.

Yesterday on her morning commute, my wife was rear-ended by a JB Hunt rig.
She’s just fine, don’t worry. It was fairly minor, the semi-truck driver did a good job of swerving to sort of slide to the side of Emily’s car, but it still did some significant damage.
The bumper, taillight and rear quarter panel will all need to be replaced. It is an older car, so the damage may be close to totaling the car. It is certainly better financially if it isn’t totaled, but we’ll have to wait and see…

Riding Bike in the Middle of the Road

Posted by nathan on 06 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: thoughts on life.

Last night while I was running, I saw up ahead of me some kids on bikes in the street. They were crossing the street, riding on the street, etc.
This was a fairly busy road, a road on which is the county’s largest grain elevator and semi trucks travel regularly. It’s a fairly well-traveled road.
As I got closer, I noticed one of the kids on a bike was about 2, maybe 2 1/2 years old, racing his older brother (5 or 6). The 2 year old was riding on the street–about 3′ from the edge of the road, with traffic. He never looked backward. He was oblivious to his surroundings.
I looked around, I think I spotted Dad in the garage, also oblivious to what his kids were doing.

Crazy. I think sometimes, if we aren’t careful, our surroundings can suck us in.
Maybe we’re slowly sucked in by a person who slowly poisons us. We can become oblivious to our surroundings, and before we know it, BAM, there was a tuck, and we never even saw it coming.

BE CAREFUL!

Interesting Quote from Guess Who…

Posted by nathan on 05 Sep 2007 | Tagged as: churches on the ball.

It ticks me off–BUT–the fact is that there are thousands of churches that are not teaching about sin, about how sin separates us from God, about how Jesus made payment for that sin on the cross and about how, by receiving Christ, He comes to live inside of us to give us an abundant and eternal life.

Who do you think said this quote?
I’ll give you a hint: It is a pastor.

Do you give up? Think about what type of church you think he is from. Do you think he’s a traditionalist? A fundamentalist? A Pentecostal? What kind of church would a pastor who says things like this (doctrinally sound) want to be a part of?

Interestingly enough, this quote is from Perry Noble, pastor of a so-called seeker church of some 7,000. Would you have guessed seeker churches talk about sin, or have you been influenced by non-seeker attenders who have not a clue what they’re talking about and spreading rumors?

Rumors are vicious things, you know.

I encourage you to read the full post, in context here.
