Ron Paul or Fred Thompson?

Posted by on 15 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: my life., random.

So…who’s the next big thing as a conservative presidential candidate, Ron Paul or Fred Thompson? (who both, incidently recently rolled out new Web sites.)

Paul is certainly the only classical conservative in the race, but does he even stand a chance of winning the Republican primary? Probably not.

Who’s the next best thing to a true classical conservative? Other than myself (I am not eligible to be President due to my age), is it Fred Thompson? He’s got the face recognition, and his Michael Moore approach was certainly very cool, and he got a lot of free online clout due to his handling of that Moore guy.

Ron Paul or Fred Thompson? what say you?

NOTE: This is not an endorsement of any Presidential candidate. I’m still exploring the candidates…

Ron Paul or nobody; Fred Thompson is just Bush 2.0. Certainly not what we need. My wife (a staunch democrat) is more conservative than Fred Thompson, lobbyist-actor-DC insider.

I thought his Moore rebuttal was condescending and lazy. He used the same antedote from the article that set Moore off in the first place.

The cigars In Fred’s video were Cuban, which is illlegal. Washington is full of folks that don’t care about laws – we don’t need antoher one. (I understand that Fred has now flip-flopped and is smoking the Dominicans. Imagine that.)

I started out a Fred head, but reading about how much he has flip-flopped on the issues changed my mind.

Since then, I’ve even seen that donations are being solicited by the Bush family on his behalf.

Fred wants to fight the war, Ron wants to hunt down Bin Laden.

Somewhat sadly, I came to the conclusion that Fred is just another big government conservative.

Definitely Ron Paul. I certainly don’t agree with all of his views, but he is the only candidate who follows the constitution. That is a sad fact really. I wish there were more politicians like him. Also I’m completely on-board with his non-interventionism; the only sane foreign policy for a civilized democratic country.

Ron Paul has been married to the same woman for 50 years. Fred Thompson traded in his bride of 25 years for a a newer model.

    No contest, Ron Paul.

Ron Paul hands down. He is the second most popular candidate on the internet, only behind Obama. Fred Thompson doesn’t have anything on the internet, and likely won’t gain much support. You’ve already admitted that RP is a true classical conservative, and inline with your views. So why are you still deciding?

    brody,
as i previously stated, ‘does he even stand a chance of winning the Republican primary? Probably not.’

Why in the world would i decide on a candidate who doesn’t stand a chance?

Second-best is better than the likes of Clinton.

Ron Paul. The only reason Fred Thompson seems to be popular is because the media tells us so. In other words, they are just pushing a different candidate to replace the failing Giuliani and McCain. Fred Thompson is just another puppet of the Global Elite and a traitor to America.

No strings atached Ron Paul is our only chance at a peaceful American Revolution in ’08.

Big government needs to get the hell out of our lives. Everything they touch turns to crap and costs us taxpayers huge amounts of our tax dollars for their failing programs. The enemy is within and we need these lying criminals out now!

    Ron Paul ’08.

@Nathan: I hope this doesn’t sound wrong. You’re not supposed to vote for the person who wins, but for the person who would represent you the best. It upsets me to hear people vote for who they think will win. That is not democracy in my opinion. Essentially, you would then let the media pick your candidate, because they report who is likely to win. Maybe I misunderstood you?

    Holly,
Yeah, i wasn’t saying i won’t vote for Ron Paul. I can see how that could be misunderstood, though.
I was asking who was the next big thing: I wish Ron Paul was, but i don’t think he’ll win, and if he won’t win, he isn’t the next big thing.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks for straightening me out, too!

    Ron Paul, of course.
Thompson is not only NOT a real conservative, he IS a NAFTA, CAFTA, NAU, WTO globalist who would just as soon trade in US sovereignty as trade in his socks.
Will Thompson call for repeal of the income tax and replacing it with nothing? NO. Will he call for the repeal of the Federal Reserve act and restore sound money? NO. Will he reinstate the traditional foreign policy of non-intervention? NO.
    It’s Ron Paul or nobody.

Dr. Ron Paul. His platform most closely matches the Founders and our founding documents which were founded upon The Bible. He is a good man. A man of integrity and honesty. Some label him a kook, because we haven’t seen a true Constitutionalist in a long time. I am a christian too, and believe that his message of freedom is the most moral.

Fred Thompson enjoys his big, condescending, weary-of-all-fools personality too much, no doubt because it pays well in his show business activities. Michael Moore is trying to promote socialized medicine and such a system does not lead logically to the imprisonment of documentary makers, so Fred’s answer is bizarre. Michael Moore’s ignorance needs to be refuted by someone who knows a lot about the Cuban medical system and even more about free-market economics. Fred Thompson knows a lot about the mannerisms of a big wise Hollywood daddy, he knows about tone of voice, executive chair rotation, and boardroom-style cigar-sucking. But he doesn’t know much about economics or liberty or the Cuban medical system. His style is that of an impatient bully who wants to run things ‘the right way’. I will vote for Ron Paul who doesn’t want to run things and has said so. And Ron Paul is impressively able to stay on point, unlike Fred, who is a foolish bully trying to act smart and scary and wise all at once and missing on all counts.

To pretend to know whether Ron Paul will win or not is nonsense and irrelevant to the question of what to do.

Those who say he can’t win are merely announcing their own decision to do nothing, no matter how right he is. I suspect it means they really don’t want him to win and just don’t want to say so.

Too bad Ron Paul is unelectable. If very many of you young, idealistic whipper-snappers vote for him, then you can kiss whatever it is you might have liked about the US Constitution good-bye and say hello to socialism. Wise up: Ron Paul shouldn’t be a ‘spoiler’ at those prices.

The others are already socialists. Romney brought universal health care when he was governor.

ptg reads like another condescending-because-older Fred Thompson. Anyone who doesn’t buy into the fools who are in power is ‘young and idealistic’ (read ‘mistaken’)- a perfect example of condescending dismisal by intellectual cowards freightened by the fact that they grow old as life-long worshippers of the fraud of government power.

Remember what this old fraud said to do: abandon your ideals (avoid idealism) and help one of the two bully parties to win.

If you are a young whipper-snapper, ask yourself if you are going to turn into ptg when you are old.

Voting for Ron Paul will be a vote for freedom. This old and un-idealistic whipper-snapper, ptg, is advising that you avoid voting for freedom. Instead, vote for facism to avoid socialism. Hint: they are both anti-freedom.

He is proof that age, like gender and color, is no indicator of wisdom. Think what freedom means to you and both campaign and vote for Ron Paul.

    I say Ron Paul

1st Fred is an actor. Check out his voting record against his current positions. There have been some shifts.
Watch him continue to parrot Ron Paul trying to steal his votes.

2nd Fred’s wife is a professional political strategist. Hmm He sure did take some time just feeling out the territory before getting into the race. Could it be he and his wife were strategizing?

3rd And what bothers me most about him is that he is the Bushie’s pick. Establishment all the way.
Key Bush backers rally to Fred Thompson
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0607/4309.html

Ron Paul is consistent and his position is verifiable by his voting record and his library of writings. He didn’t just recently strategize his position. He has stuck to these principles for many many years.

Ron Paul is the real deal. Fred is an actor who will change his tune if he gets elected just like Bush did.

I love you Ron Paul people. You guys make the kooks on the left look mainstream. Paul is not conservative on the military or fighting for our national interests and the only polls that he leads in are the ones that Paul’s supporters overrun and vote hundreds of times. He is drawing no support in any major poll and his fundraising is nonexistent.

Fred Thompson is the only conservative in this race that believes in the principles set forth in the constitution. I doubt Ron Paul has even read it….

Ok…let’s see. Evil terrorists breaks into your house and says they’re going to kill you and your family. There’s a few of them (19), and a few you quite can’t see as they’ve not entered the house yet. One says, “I’m going to rape and sodomize your wife”, or you can go with my colleague, who simply wants to spend some time with your daughter…let’s say a few minutes. Or, you can do something utterly foolish and outlandish. You can actually fight for your family and try to overcome the EVIL TERRORIST (which, by the way, is the right thing to do). I think fighting for Ron Paul is sort of like fighting for your wife and kids. The terrorist may win, but I, in this circumstance, would rather fight than to accept the lesser of two evils.

The only possible reason he couldn’t “stand a chance” is if people that would vote for him keep believing that and don’t vote for him. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you end up believing strongly in Ron Paul, vote for him in the primary!

If by that you mean you really have no voice and your vote doesn’t count, then why bother pondering over it at all?

The myth of “wasting your vote”:

If you don’t vote for Ron Paul if he is your first choice, then you loose, either way.

I switched from a Fred head to a Paulite and have never looked back. As soon as I dug in to the details of their campaign and personal history it was an easy decision to side with RP. At first I rationalized that if Paul was at least able to make a decent showing he has the chance to “wake up” other Republican candidates to what conservatism really is. If he is elected President some of his more outlandish ideas are unlikely to be adopted even if he had a Republican congress to work with. Since I’ve been a supporter I’ve come to realize how some of his seemingly outlandish ideas might actually work and make this country great again. And by “outlandish ideas” I’m talking about dismantling several federal agencies as well as returning the US to the Gold standard.

There is no comparison between these two candidates! Ron Paul is the real deal and his supports need to get out there and tell the rest of the nation what he stands for and why he is the only chance America has for a free & liberty loving future. We cannot let “face recognition” win the day. This is just too important to sit on.

Please, please ACT! Put a sign, any sign in your car window that supports Ron Paul. I have and because of it have been able to introduce about a dozen people to his idea and campaign!

His ideas seem outlandish due to the lack of exposure in the “mainstream media”. The reason for constant inflation is our money being backed by nothing but the government’s ability to print more to pay for more government spending.

Haven’t you noticed our steady decline into socialism for many years? How about with George Bush? No Child Left Behind, Medicare prescription drug program…. Have you noticed what has happened to our Constitution? Even though our public servants pledge an oath to protect and defend it, it’s hardly even consulted anymore and downright trampled. Sneak and peak, habeas corpus removed, warrantless wiretaps, ….

I’m hardly a whipper-snapper, since I’m 50 years old, but I have watched this great man Ron Paul for over 20 years and I haven’t seen anyone with more integrity, honesty, and conviction with a long voting record to back up what he says.

Yes it will be hard; most anything worthwhile is, but I’m not willing to admit we’ve lost our country to a bunch of elites. Way too many have fought and died for this great country. Seems to me, the least we can do is to stand up for Her in the voting booth, by voting for the one man who will do everything in his power to reinstate the Constitution.

For the record, Fred Thompson is a member of the notorious Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
