13 years from now

I was just working with an image of a cross from one of our collections. The original designer put 10 rays out from the crossing up the upright and crossbeam. The rays were rainbow color. it was pretty gross–no thanks!
So i spent some time removing the rainbow rays. While i was removing them, my brother stopped by and asked what i was doing. i showed him the before and after, and then he asked, ‘who would ever do something like that?’
‘well, this is like 10 years old i responded. it was probably pretty cool back then.’
then i looked, and it is actually 13 years old.
So i wondered, what will people say 13 years from now about the things we’re doing?
i finally figured it out: ‘Who would ever do something like that?’

Ah yes…trendy stuff.
There is trendy design that will look ugly in ten years, and there is timeless design that looked good when it was done hundreds of years ago, and still looks fantastic today.
I’ve seen a few interesting crosses, but never anything with rainbow beams behind it! Now, we just use those trendy two-tone rays.

My sister and I were talking the other day about how we don’t necessarily feel like we need to put our kids in “labels” but we try within our budget to get them clothes that are current as far as style. She pointed out that this included baggy jeans that were straight leg or bootcut-never tapered!! I laughed so hard as I recalled begging mom over and over through junior high and high school to get me pants with a smaller bottom! Remember pegging just to get them even tighter?! How gross right? I wonder if there will be a time when styles have changed again and my boys look back and say “why did you put us in such huge pants?”
