I was just working with an image of a cross from one of our collections. The original designer put 10 rays out from the crossing up the upright and crossbeam. The rays were rainbow color. it was pretty gross–no thanks!
So i spent some time removing the rainbow rays. While i was removing them, my brother stopped by and asked what i was doing. i showed him the before and after, and then he asked, ‘who would ever do something like that?’
‘well, this is like 10 years old i responded. it was probably pretty cool back then.’
then i looked, and it is actually 13 years old.
So i wondered, what will people say 13 years from now about the things we’re doing?
i finally figured it out: ‘Who would ever do something like that?’

So i think Emily and I are going to take another ballroom dance class.
About 2 1/2 or 3 years ago, before we were married, we took a beginner course, and both really enjoyed it. we danced once since then, and that’s it.
Monday night Emily and I were working out, and we stopped by the current beginner class where our friends Michael and Amy were dancing. They told us the new intermediate course was beginning next week, and i think we’re going to do it…we’re still kinda talking about it, but i do think we’ll be there…talk about fun!
i can’t wait to take some photos of Michael and Amy (when they least expect it) and post them here! hehe…

This little Site, dnScoop, tells you a bunch of cool info about a given url.
I was happy to find out i was Google PageRank4 (the higher the better), there are nearly 10,000 incoming links, and the value of my blog is like $4,000.
It’s not exactly the most accurate, but it’s pretty cool to see the stats there. Check it out:

I couldn’t believe my ears.
I sat listening, trying to figure out if this was a joke. it was not.
a few select quotes:
“it’s not so much the length of the hair, but the direction. location and direction–that’s the concept you’ve got to master.”
“as long as that hair above your ears is pointed horizontal, and goes over the ear in a horizontal direction…that’s spiritual. … if that same hair…touches the collar, you’ve ruined your fellowship with God.”
“you see, it’s the location and direction that is really important. how do we know this? Because Fundamentalist preachers wear their hair that way.”
“Bless God, we know it’s right because that’s the way we fundamentalists do it.”
“It doesn’t make any difference about history, my friend, if it doesn’t match our theology, let’s rewrite history.”
Check out this link at MMI, and listen to this brief sermon, i mean, evangelist, i mean, rant.

this past weekend, my dad shared a message using the text Luke 8:26-35, when Jesus heals the demoniac Legion.
As Jesus is talking to the demoniac,
The demons implored Him to permit them them to enter the swine. And He gave them permission. (Luke 8:32)
Then it hit me–if Jesus was willing to grant the reasonable request of a legion of demons, how much more willing would he be willing to grant the request of people like me?

This weekend, Emily and I were enjoying a great mini-vacation in the Angola/Fremont area, and we decided that we needed to start working out more seriously. Sometimes we would go, and just work out gingerly for about 15 or 20 minutes. We decided we must start going the full 30 minutes.
Last night was the first of our full 30 minute workouts. It was pretty busy when we arrived, so my wife took the good recumbent bike, and i walked out to get a towel so i could lift a bit. As i came back in, one of the running treadmills opened up, so i jumped on there and started running at a pace i knew would be hard to keep for the full 30 minutes. So i’m running hard, hurting, breathing heavy.
About 20 minutes into the workout, the girl to my right leaves. I am seriously tired. I am trying to take deep breathes, take in all the air i can. It’s a killer. At about minute 25, someone let one go. I mean, a big, raunchy stinky one. Like, a room clearer. It was horrible!
Keep in mind i’m in the middle of a hard workout, breathing hard. Yuck!
So my mind starts racing, ‘What do I do?’ Should i look over at the woman (about age 45) beside me and make a nasty face at her? Do i pull my shirt up over my nose? Cough? Plug my nose? stop the machine and leave?
A couple seconds later, the woman beside me was talking to the lady on the other side of her. i was listening to Michael Jackson, so i couldn’t hear the conversation, but i can just imagine it went something like, ‘Do you smell what this guy beside me just did? that is horrible!’
What would you have done had you been in my shoes, working out in the middle of a raunchy room-clearer?

I was reading Perry Noble, and he said something i wanted to share with you.
you CAN NOT say you are a fully functioning disciple of Christ if your “spiritual gift” is sitting on your rear end. In order for people to develop…they must be involved in ministry. Look at the disciples in Scripture–they were all EMPOWERED and ENABLED NOT to sit in a room and discuss the tribulation…but rather to do ministry!
What capacity are you volunteering in your ministry?
I am excited about some of the things New Hope has in store over the next several months. We have some volunteer opportunities which we haven’t ever offered before. I’m excited to utilize some people and their talents in ways they never thought possible!
It’s coming…we have some awesome volunteer things coming…

Valentine’s Day this year was great.
I snowed a load, so Emily and I both were home all day. It was really good to spend the whole day together! I manually scooped all the driveway, and i finally came to the conclusion that i would like to purchase a snow blower. It took me about a total of about two hours, in four different shifts, to clear off the driveway. I couldn’t imagine doing that all at once.
About 4 p.m., Emily and I were a little stir-crazy, so we drove up to Hart’s to pick up some chocolate, and then walked down to Family Furniture, the used furniture store located where Feller Furniture was for so long. It was fun to be out.
When we got back to the house, Emily made supper. It was a wonderful supper. Shrimp Scampi on a bed of pasta, Casa salad and a wonderful dessert of phyllo dough and candy bars baked with a melted truffle glaze (if that’s what it’s called?). it was great. We got out our wedding china, which we had never used before, goblets and flatware.
We both got dressed up–i actually put on a tie for my wife, and she wore a beautiful red dress–man, my wife is hot!
We had a wonderful candlelight dinner with our fine china. I made press coffee with some great beans, and the coffee went really great with the dessert Emily made.
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. It was a lot of fun. Did you do anything unusual on Valentine’s Day?

Today we are in a blizzard. The Blizzard of ’07, i am calling it.
This morning I didn’t let my wife drive to work, as she has a 40 minute commute, and i didn’t want her driving in this. i think she has had an enjoyable day at home.
At my work today, we closed at noon, so I was able to enjoy the afternoon with my wife. We also decided to go ahead and close for tomorrow all day, so i look forward to Valentine’s Day at home. I hope it’s bad so there is no question that Emily isn’t going to work tomorrow, so we can spend the whole day together.
Did you have any interesting excursions in the Blizzard of ’07?

This past weekend, we had a marriage and relationships night at New Hope. It was a lot of really great stuff, following the concept of Love and Respect. Wrapping the whole night up, dad (our senior pastor) said:
Living together with somebody of the opposite gender creates sex.
yeah…that was supposed to be stress, not sex.
that was funny. quite funny.

here is a current website development project i’m working on: By The Book.
By The Book is the company that produces Roll Call, the Church management software solution which New Hope and a lot of other churches use.
It is a pretty cool software program, and has great support. i’ve got a little pet-project in the works, to allow online giving. i’ve been working with By The Book support and we’ll have a fully integrated solution in the coming months. we’ll be quietly testing in the background for a few months while we work out the workflow and any kinks before we roll it out a bit more.
