super bowl facts for non-football fans.

First, let me just say, Go Colts! I love my Indianapolis Colts. My beloved (second to Emily, anyway).
Second, If you don’t care much for football, perhaps you would find it interesting that the Colts coach, Tony Dungy, as well as (the soon-to-be Super Bowl losers) Bears Coach Lovie Smith, are both Christians, and are not quiet about it. They are pretty vocal about their faith. They are also close friends.
Following the Colts victory last week over the Patriots, Dungy said, “The Lord tested us a lot this year, but He set this up to get all the glory.”

It is very exciting to me that an event such as the Superbowl, about as secular as you can get with consecutive beer ads and a half-time show that is not always family-friendly (not for this family anyway), will have teams led by Christian men (don’t forget team owner Irsay, also a man of faith that thanked the Lord after accepting the championship trophy). I don’t know much about the Bears’ players, but it is clear that Dungy has been successful in inspiring his team to have great sportsmanship and attitudes. Each time I hear an interview with our players, not just Peyton but many others, they give credit to the whole team for victory and display humility generally lacking in pro sports. These are the kinds of athletes I want my sons to look up to. I’m proud to be a Colts fan, win or lose (but we are going to WIN!) Thanks for putting this up on your blog!
