Starbucks and their brand…

Top 10 Restaurant Chains

So I’ve posted a couple blogs recently about church marketing. I wanted to diverge for a moment to give a relevant example of the marketplace.

The below graph shows the top 10 restaurant chains (ranked on their market share) and the amount of

money (in millions) they spend on advertising each year. If you note the trend, marketshare is roughly 1/100 of the amount spend on advertising. Except starbucks. their marketshare is roughly 1/10. that is ten times larger than their competition. why?

Is their product really that much better? is their advertising really ten times better?

Are you happy the new Starbucks is open in Auburn? Personally, I’d rather support the smaller coffee shops (ahem, Brewdaily, cough, cough, sputter, sputter) but to each his own.

Starbucks is open? oh yeah! i didn’t think it was open yet.
Brew Daily’s has a great atmosphere. But the coffee is pretty weak there.
But yeah…Brew Daily’s closes at like 6 p.m., and my wife and I like to date at 7 or 8 p.m., so we will welcome Starbucks.
Great environment and great, consistent coffee.

Wait, you’re married and you still “date?” Can you talk to Ayron…just kidding.

I guess the reason I don’t agree nor disagree with you concerning the Starbuck’s coffee is because I can’t drink the stuff. I can’t drink any brand of coffee. I’m more of a hot chocolote person.

    oh my carma…
you need to spend more time with Emily and I. perhaps we’ll rub off on you.
No, really, i used to hate coffee. My best friend purchased a coffee shop in Fort Wayne, (The Java Bean, near Piere’s in the Marketplace of Canterbury, if anyone cares to remember it), and he gave me (free, because i wouldn’t buy anything) a Carmel Cappuccino Shake. oooooo….flipping yeah. it was so good!

I would recommend next time you’re in Brew Daily’s, you ask them about a Shake. Even try just 1 shot (I can’t even taste one shot!) in that. i think you’ll like it.
If they don’t carry shakes, you can get a Frappachino knock-off. Blended ice, milke and espresso. Again, i recommend you start with one shot.

You’ll like it…i think it will grow on you!
