I guess I used resolution interchangeably with goal.

I guess my thing is that I don't set goals or make resolutions when the year changes. I do it when it's needed. I started a business in February a few years back, and I set short and long term goals at that point. I also set review dates and parameters to see if the goals needed to be revised.

I think I need to have a reason to set a goal, and simply because the year changed just doesn't cut it.

well, if it makes any difference, i've never kept a New Year's Resolution either. That's why i don't make them. I make goals.

A goal is something you strive to attain.
A New Year's Resolution is typically something you start of stop cold turkey.

I have five-year and ten-goals as well. If i don't have a goal--somewhere to aim--how would I ever know if I get there, let along know where I'm going?

Honestly, I don't know that I've ever kept a New Year's Resolution...ever. Not even the ones that I have written down. So, I have stopped making them. They are merely a source of discouragement and frustration to me. I think it is because I make them because that's what I am supposed to do at the New Year.

I am able to keep resolutions that I make, but I normally make them at different times throughout the year when I see a need to do so.

I guess it just doesn't make sense to me to wait until January 1 to make decisions and allow God to work on me.

But that's just me.
