so, if we really want to be relevant those yet unconvinced about Jesus, doesn’t it make sense to speak in their vernacular?

Sure…using words that end in -ology probably are completely irrelevant to most unconvinced people in the world. And i don’t think many would argue against that.

But, what about words which are commonplace in church circles that aren’t 14-letter words, but words that aren’t in the vernacular of the unconvinced? Such as fellowship. When is the last time you heard your coworkers (at a secular place of employment) say, ‘do you want to grab a cup of coffee and fellowship?’
say what?

Or what about saying things like, ‘we need someone’ or ‘we want you to commit’ or even ‘here, you’ll find intimacy.’ What exactly is a married group who is all intimate with each other? what does an unconvinced think a married group is all intimate with each other is?

I know i would stay as far away from that group as i can! I am plenty happy (believe me, plenty happy is an understatement) being intimate with my wife.

What do you think? are there other ‘Christianese’ words you know that to an unconvinced person would mean something completely different?

‘hey, i want to recruit you to work in the nursery for me next weekend.’
or
‘hey, i wanted to invite you to serve in the nursery with me next weekend.
