sometimes it’s a dry wall

this weekend i started tackling a project around the house i’ve wanted to do for some time, but just didn’t have the time or the materials needed to do it. (it’s not like i can strap 4×8 sheets of sheet rock to the top of my mustang.)
i have begun the process of hanging drywall in the basement stairwell. Sunday, i started the project by re-rerouting wiring through the studs (since they were previously run outside the studs, where the drywall will sit). That was project 1, and was pretty quickly accomplished.
Project 2 was to install a new light for the back entry. (there is a small 3′x3′ ‘landing’ at the back door, basement stairwell, and a back closet.) previously, it was very hard to see anything in the closet because it was so dark. This one proved to be interesting…I’m not exactly an experience electrician, but i like to think I’m fairly smart and so i thought i would just piggy-back the power off the existing kitchen light switch, so i ran the wire from the new light to the switch. i powered everything up, and when the kitchen light was on, the new light was off and when the kitchen light was off, the new light was on. so i switched the black and white wires, and it didn’t change anything.
so, i got out my handy lowes book (which i should have done in the first place) and figured out the problem. so last night, i ran a new cable of live power to the a new second switch (which controls only the back light), and everything works as planned. finally. (of course, installing the larger outlet box was fun, but i want to move on to project 3 already)
which brings me to project 3…installing drywall. last night i cut the first sheet, and got it installed (which a little help from Emily). there is a bit of a lip on the side i installed it on, so i just had to lift it in place, set it there, and then take my time screwing it in. the other side doesn’t have such a lip, so it will be a lot more ‘fun’ to install…hopefully it goes well…we’ll see.

You may have not seen us at Home Depot, but we saw your parents! Apparently your mom has your dad repainting the bathroom.
