finally, a headboard

ever since my wife and i got married about 18 months ago, we’ve talked about getting a headboard. at first, we had discussed a wrought iron headboard, then when we actually looked at the price tags on one of those things, we decided we could settle for a wrought iron-looking headboard.
well, we continually progressed and discussed what we were looking for in a headboard. so, we finally got around to getting a headboard installed last night. Actually…we made it!
we got a sheet of 3/4″ plywood dropped off to us by our friend Jason who works at Carter Lumber. Thanks a lot Jason–we really appreciate it!
I then cut the plywood using my circular saw, using a clamped-down level as a guide to make sure i had a straight line. So after i (with emily’s help holding the board) had cut the 4×8 sheet to about 3′x5 1/2′, we took the board inside and then wrapped it with batting (thin padding), and then wrapped that with a faux leather fabric.
To install, i had 2 4′ 2×4 lumber attached to the bed frame as uprights, and then we screwed the headboard to these uprights with screws.
and then, we were done. after replacing the mattress and making the bed, i was whooped. i’m not used to physical labor any more! my legs ache today, my back hurts…i’m just a wimp i suppose…

Kudos to Emily for holding the board! Without her, the headboard would be crooked…and you probably wouldn’t be proud enough of your handiwork to write a blog about it
